This innovative tie is formed by the union of two interconnected straps: Firstly, an elasticated cellular strap attaches the tree to the supporting stake, and then a secondary interlocking strap engages with one of the exposed cells to secure everything together.

This results in a sophisticated multi-functional tie:

As the tree moves in the wind, the primary cellular strap expands slightly, and this exercises the stem to naturally strengthen it. However, this strap cannot come undone because the secondary strap locks it in place.

Then, as the tree grows, the enlarging stem gradually pulls the secondary strap out of the interlocking cell. And only when it is fully retracted will the primary strap release the tree.

The point of release is easily controlled by simply adjusting the length of the locking strap. When the stem reaches the appropriate diameter, the tree will come undone.

Full Installation Guide

To avoid damaging the roots, insert the stake first, then plant the tree afterwards. Ideally, the tree should be placed downwind of the stake to prevent them blowing against each other. To keep stake and stem apart, the tree should also be planted slightly away from the stake (25-50mm), and current recommended paractice is to ensure the top of the stake reaches about 1/3 of the total height of the tree.


Tip: for easier installation, if possible, attach the tree tie to the stake before starting the planting process.

1. Attaching the Tree Tie to a Stake

To prevent the tree rubbing against the stake, place a spacing cushion or pad behind the mounting bracket as required.

a) Use the integrated mounting bracket to fit the tree tie near to the top of the post. Firmly screw or nail the bracket to the stake.

b) Alternatively, attach using a standard 25mm tree tie. This should then be secured using screws or nails to stop it slipping.

2. Install the Tie Around the Tree

a) Loop the cellular strap around the tree using the large rectangular aperture. DO NOT pull this strap too tight.

b) Insert the locking strap through one of the cells after the aperture. Pull this strap snug around the stem.

c) Trim the end of the locking strap to allow for required stem growth. Leave about 20mm per year.

3. How the Tie Grows and Releases

a) As the wind blows the tree, the cellular strap stretches to allow stem movement. But the locking strap does not move.
